> A practical restaurant POS checklist: evaluate a real order from seating or counter sale through menu choices, preparation, payment and daily reports.

## Choose a POS by following one real order.

A feature list can sound impressive. A real service story tells you more. Take one familiar order and follow it through the system you are considering.

### Start with your service.

Write down what happens in your place before comparing screens.

### Try the handovers.

Check what the next person sees, not just what the first person taps.

### Check the limits.

Ask for specifics about payments, devices, offline use and integrations.

## 01 · Describe an ordinary visit.

Choose something your team recognises: two guests, a drink each, food with one extra, then another round. For a counter business, choose a sale with a customisation and a collection step.

- Where does the order begin?
- Who prepares it?
- When does the guest pay?

## 02 · Follow the order through the team.

Watch what happens after it is sent. The kitchen should receive the intended details, the serving team should understand readiness, and the cashier should find the right bill without recreating the order.

- Can part of a ticket become ready?
- How are held items sent later?
- How does a staff member with two responsibilities work?

## 03 · Finish the sale, then look behind it.

Review a split bill, the recorded payment and the receipt. Open the transaction afterwards. Compare issued sales with money collected, and ask how refunds and drawer closing appear.

## 04 · Ask what the words really mean.

“Offline”, “integrated payment” and “real time” can describe very different things. Ask which actions work without a connection, which provider confirms payment, which devices have been tested, and which integrations are actually available.

## 05 · Try Nimki against that story.

Nimki connects tables or counter service, preparation, billing and receipts, with dedicated staff workspaces and owner oversight. Its current limits are described in the relevant product FAQs, so you can assess the fit alongside the strengths.

## Questions & answers

### What should I prepare before reviewing a POS?

Bring a small sample menu, your usual payment sequence, your staff responsibilities and one real example of a busy service handover.

### Should the most features win?

Choose around the work you actually need to complete. A connected, understandable order flow is often more useful than a long list of tools your team will not use.
